The Strata Titles Institute of Western Australia (“STIWA”) understands the importance of protecting your personal information. The privacy policy set out below is designed to protect personal information you may provide.
STIWA recognises that any personal information we may receive about you will only be used for the purposes indicated in this Policy and will be treated with appropriate respect.
STIWA has developed this Policy in order to comply with the National Privacy Principles for the protection of personal information, as set out in the Privacy Act and other relevant laws.
What is STIWA?
STIWA is the foremost industry organisation of strata titles professionals. If you are a member of STIWA, we will disclose your personal information to the public on the STIWA website, to sponsors of STIWA and in occasional publications available to other members, sponsors of STIWA and the public generally.
Otherwise, where possible, we will inform you, at or before the time of collecting your personal information, the types of organisations to which we intend to disclose your personal information.
Sometimes we are required or authorised by the Strata Titles Act, the constitution of STIWA, a strata company’s by-laws, the State Administrative Tribunal Act and other laws to disclose your personal information.
Direct Marketing
From time to time, we may use your personal information to provide you with current information about strata titles law, educational seminars and materials, special offers you may find of interest, changes to our organisation, new services being offered by us or any company or association we are associated with.

We will not charge you for giving effect to your request and will take all reasonable steps to meet your request at the earliest possible opportunity.

In most circumstances, we will need to identify you to successfully provide services to you as a member or to interact with you. However, where it is lawful and practicable to do so, we will offer you the opportunity of interacting with us without providing us with personal information. Such a situation would be where you make general inquiries about our services.

Sensitive information is information relating to your racial or ethnic origin, political persuasion, memberships of trade or professional association or trade unions other than STIWA, sexual preferences, criminal record, or health.
Where sensitive information about you is collected or stored, we will only use this information if you have given your consent, in the exercise or defence of a legal claim or as required by law.
Securing Your Personal Information That We Hold?
We will take reasonable steps to protect your personal information, consistent with the disclosures referred to above. When the information is no longer needed or no longer required by law to be retained, it will be destroyed or permanently de-identified.
